Since getting home (near Ottawa) on August 3, I have not seen a Painted Lady. It seems the irruption died out somewhat. I have seen only two empty larval
nests on Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare) near my laneway (45.26 N, 76.10 W), so even the last

They were the first, and I think the earliest for me. I had another one today; for what ever reason Admirals and Ladies have been sparse in the Mid-Michigan area for the last few years. This is beginning to look like a boom year. There should be a way of documenting the lean years.
