Description/Notes:
Los Osos/Morro Bay State Park, California. Location precision: estimated within a 400m radius. The weather on Saturday was warm and clear. The entire habitat is lush and full of wildflowers. This just added to the already innate beauty of Morro Bay. As I hiked from the monarch grove towards the lofty sand dunes, I began seeing huge numbers of day flying moths with bright red and yellow underwings that were bigger and not Annaphila (Leptarctia?). These turned out to be the most common lep of the day, other than Vanessa cardui – which were super abundant all over the marsh and sand dunes. Observed by Mark Walker, DesertLeps.
