Description/Notes:
Union Road, Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada. Location precision: estimated within a 500m radius. [Observed by James Holdsworth, Ontario Butterflies newsgroup]. While doing a field visit to a site in Union, just north of Port Stanley, I noticed good numbers of Red Admiral along the field edges. After a bit of watching the open field I realized there were sizable numbers passing north through the site. Besides about 120 Admirals on the ground, I counted est. 10 per minute flying through for the hour I was watching. So, over 700 on this site with actual numbers likely far higher.
As the day warmed up I began to notice that Lady's, mostly American, were becoming increasingly frequent - from almost none in the morning. These too were moving in some numbers and my final site tally was about 60, again really under-counted. This movement seemed widespread as I saw dozens more butterflies along John Wise Line on the way home and also noted more American Lady and Red Admiral in my yard this afternoon.
