Description/Notes:
Friendship Trail, Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada. [Rick Cavasin is an Ontario butterfly expert.] The weather was finally reasonable today and I went for a cycle on the bike path between Port Colborne and Sherkston (southern Niagara region). There were large numbers of Red Admirals flying through. Many were pausing to nectar on the various willows that are in bloom, as well as the Dandelions. I counted around 55, but there were lots of additional flyby's that were almost certainly Red Admirals. I only saw 4 American Ladies, and one Question Mark. These were my first migrants of the year ( a few days ago I saw what were probably 2 Red Admirals but was not able to ID them ). As for resident species, I saw 2 Mourning Cloaks (one flitting about the buds on a tree I couldn't identify, and another nectaring on Willow flowers), and 6 Cabbage Whites. Cheers, Rick [from Ontario Butterflies Newsgroup]
