Description/Notes:
Pee Dee National Wildlife Refuge, Wadesboro, North Carolina. Location precision: within a 3 km radius. I spent most of the day in the Pee Dee NWR under partly cloudy skies on Tuesday. I walked the entire length of the dirt/gravel GTR Road and much of Leak Ferry Road, a gravel road close to the Pee Dee River. My primary purpose was to look for Carolina and Gemmed Satyrs which have been scarce year-to-date. I was pleased to se a few Satyrs and on both GTR Road and Leak Ferry I had 2 Satyrs chasing each other, a very common sight in prior years. I did not have a Gemmed Satyr. Red-spotted Purples and Polygonia sp were found in all locations. Both Hackberry Emperors were found on Leak Ferry Road. Observed by Will Stuart, CarolinaLeps newsgroup.
