Number Observed:
Presence of butterfly in your area
Wind Speed:
Near Goodsprings, Clark County, Nevada. Location precision: within a 5m radius. 70 F, light winds. Observed by lonnyholmes, Vanessa Migration Project page, iNaturalist. https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/22536079 @iowabiologist In this small valley this afternoon I saw more than 200 Painted Lady butterflies. They were everywhere and at times 15 to 20 were visible on two or three adjacent bushes. Never have I seen this many butterflies is one afternoon (day), many more than I reported to you at Nelson, NV several weeks ago. @lonnyholmes Could this be a second generation in your area? If larval food plants weren't depleted by the February/March generation, it's possible for another brood of butterflies to have developed in your area. @iowabiologist Very possible. They were thick as ants. The plant they were nectaring on I believe is Lycium andersonii, which was growing all over the valley and all in full bloom.
