Description/Notes:
Grammer Grove County Wildlife Area, Marshall County, Iowa. Location precision: within a 1m radius. At least 30 individuals seen between the parking and shelter area and the bluff/bottomlands. They varied in size and coloration, with some individuals larger and blacker, while others were smaller with a brownish cast. None were obviously migrating; some would approach me and land nearby. Some were sunning in the woods, while others were nectaring at wildflowers. Most were in the open parking area, but some were along trails, and a few were in wooded locations. Survey from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. CDT. Sunny, p.m. temp about 70 F, calm in woods but light wind in open parking area.
